A 1,000 foot dam along the San Lorenzo River, one block from the Boardwalk in
the City of Santa Cruz, was virtually disintegrating. Although Rain for
Rent was not awarded the original contract, the Salinas branch stayed
involved with the unique project because they felt the contractor would need
their services. A 12-foot x 1,300-foot long “Port-a-dam” kept the river
water away from the contractor's crews, enabling them to rebuild the wall.
Not only did the project need to be completed by the end of September before rain falls, the water within the dam needed to be kept low enough to ensure dry excavation. Pumping requirements were affected by high and low tides.
Observing that the submersible pumps being used on the project were not performing as expected, Rain for Rent personnel convinced the contractor that our Power Prime™ pumps could do a much faster and more efficient job of dewatering the dam. Rain for Rent installed three DV-200 Sound Attenuated Power Prime™ pumps along with pipe and hose.
One additional pump was installed to keep up with the high tides. The project continues to be successful.
