Mine Operations Remain Online with 1.75 MGD Filtration System

BACKGROUND

Columbus, MT – In order for mining operations to continue uninterrupted while the clarifier was taken offline for upgrades, a temporary bypass and filtration would be required. The system would need to be able to fit within a strictly limited space, and effectively remove total suspended solids (TSS) from the flow prior to discharge into the tailings pond.

OUTCOME & HIGHLIGHTS

Rain for Rent’s local Branch team and in-house Filtration specialists designed and installed a system with a compact footprint to bypass the clarifier and filter the used mine water. Pump watch services were utilized to ensure that discharge into the tailings pond continually met scheduled TSS measurements. By strictly adhering to the TSS specs, the system was able to avoid sending water with out-of-range measurements to the tailings pond. This helped to prevent potential higher end-costs associated with dredging or removing sediment/silt from the pond and avoided negative environmental consequences.
